I have seen some business that buck the trend when it comes to their employee development. <br /><br />The problem with it in the business world is there is no "employee knowledge learned" on the balance sheet. (see my previous comments http://tiny.cc/6s0jj ) . On the flip side, at the university, I think some people get jobs because they're great in a particular field of research and the other stuff is secondary (advising and teaching, usually). And because universities are the ultimate money rat-race, they're not spending money on developing the faculty because they don't even have enough for the primary (students).
